Moore Industries, a world leader in the design and manufacture of interface instruments for industrial process control, system integration, and factory automation, went with exida for the safety certification of their Safety Trip Alarm (STA).
With safety being a priority, Tina Lockhart, director of engineering at Moore, says “exida certification is the best choice for global functional safety certification.” exida, an International Certification Body, certified Moore’s Safety Trip Alarm system to a SIL level 3 per IEC 61508.
SIL certification through exida guarantees that a product has been designed and developed in accordance with the standard set by the International Electrotechnical Commission (IEC). A level 3 certification ensures a high level of resistance to random hardware and “systematic” design failures which is necessary for products such as the STA, which has the capacity to perform as a logic solver, acting upon potentially hazardous process conditions.
“We were using TUV, a certification body based in Germany and tried exida to see if we could get better responsiveness. We soon discovered their focus on critical functional safety issues,” says Lockhart. exida’s team worked alongside of Moore Industries for a comprehensive assessment and smooth certification process. After working with Moore Industries, Iwan van Beurden, Certifying Assessor for exida stated, “After review of their products' hardware and systematic objective, Moore Industries has a strong development process that meets the requirements of SIL 3 - IEC 61508.”
This level of safety certification allows Moore Industries to expand their product’s capability for reduced field failure rates and design flaws.
