The global leader in industrial automation cybersecurity certification, exida, has presented ABB’s Industrial Automation Control System with both an ISASecure Product Development Certification (SDLA) and Safety System Assessment (SSA) Certification for their Ability™ System 800xA Automation Control System.
Characterized by its integration capabilities and versatility, System 800xA is a distributed control, electrical control, and safety system. This multi-faceted system is a collaboration enabler with the ability to improve engineering, operator performance and asset utilization. With an ISASecure SSA certification from exida, “ABB’s customers are given assurance that this product meets the technical security requirements for Industrial Automation Control Systems (IACS) as defined in the internationally recognized ISA/IEC 62443-3-3 and ISA/IEC 62443-4-1 standards” says Andre Ristaino, Managing Director, ISASecure Program.
An SDLA Certification was also issued by exida to ABB for their Secure Product Development Process for Control and I/O. This compound certification allows ABB to provide customers with a safe and trustworthy system, from the design, down to each individual component. Due to the System 800xA’s capabilities and market impact, it was crucial that ABB paired with a globally recognized certification body like exida for the certifications. exida was pleased to work with the ABB team as they navigated through the assessment and certification process. “The SSA certification of the Ability System 800xA is a significant milestone for ABB.” adds Mike Medoff, Director of exida Certification. “In order to achieve this certification, ABB had to demonstrate that this system was developed following a secure development lifecycle, perform significant security testing on the system and demonstrate that the system included security capabilities compliant with IEC 62443-3-3 Security Level 1.”
In an ever-evolving industry, safety is imperative, and “with a certification from exida, owners and operators of our industrial automation technology can be confident that they have the best system, and the best protection, to go to the next level of productivity.” says Jim Lemanowicz, Cyber Security Product Manager with ABB’s Process Control Platform group.
