Harold Thomas, P.E., C.F.S.E, has joined exida, the worldwide leader in the certification of automation equipment for use in safety instrumented systems. Thomas joins exida from Air Products and Chemicals, where he spent more than 36 years improving the safety work processes, introducing knowledge-based hazard reviews, and standardizing the application of safety instrumented systems (SIS) across the entire global organization.
At exida, Thomas will serve clients in Hazard and Operability (HAZOP) studies, Fault Tree Analysis, Layer of Protection Analysis (LOPA), consequence analysis, Safety Integrity Level (SIL) assessments, and SIL verifications. He will also facilitate consequence and likelihood analyses allowing users to perform detailed quantitative risk assessments based on physical and reliability models.
As the former chairman and current technical consultant for the CCPS Process Equipment Reliability Database (PERD) Initiative, Thomas is an expert in the collection, analysis and application of field failure rate data to an SIS. He has contributed to a number of CCPS guideline books and has published more than 18 papers during his career in process safety. He is an active member of the ISA S84 committee.
Mr. Thomas received his B.S. in Mechanical Engineering from Bucknell University.
