Applying the Principles of the Functional Safety Lifecycle

Recording Date: January 2017

Analyzing High Pressure in a Batch Chemical Reactor

The functional safety lifecycle provides a method to analyze, implement, and maintain a safety instrumented system, from project scope definition to decommission. Using a batch chemical reactor example, this webinar will walk through each step of the lifecycle. A high pressure deviation will be used as the starting point in the process hazard analysis. The resulting hazard scenario is subsequently analyzed in a layer of protection analysis. Requirements for a SIF are described in the safety requirements specification. After conceptual design is created SIL verification is performed, and the resulting SIF design is converted into an application program. Finally, life events including proof testing, maintenance activities and process demands are recording during operation.
